A recap of the launch of He Rau Ake Ake, our 100 year whenua optimisation plan

Late last year, we came together to launch He Rau Ake Ake — a long-term vision grounded in whakapapa, whenua, and collective responsibility.

The launch was a moment to pause, listen, and reflect on what it means to plan not just for today, but for generations to come. Through kōrero shared on the day, a clear theme emerged: that the future of our whenua depends on decisions that are thoughtful, values-led, and shaped by those who know it best.

He Rau Ake Ake represents a commitment to intergenerational thinking, that balances productivity with protection, opportunity with responsibility, and economic outcomes with cultural and environmental wellbeing. It is about taking the long view, guided by mātauranga, evidence, and lived experience.

This recap video captures the spirit of the day — the people, the whakaaro, and the shared intent to do things well, together, for the long haul. A big thank you to our Chair, Hayden Swann and Ministry for Primary Industries Deputy Director-General Māori Partnerships and Investment, Glenn Weber for their korero and contribution to the video.
